Peoples Trust Success Story: Putting Their People First

At the heart of The Peoples Trust Company mission is a belief that people are more important than account numbers. With that core value, joining RiseVT to engage their own employees in improved health was a natural step.

Stacey Cauller, VP of Peoples Trust worked collaboratively with RiseVT to find ways their business can focus on wellness.   “It’s exciting to see how our business can affect our employee’s health.   We know that healthy employees are more productive, happier and present at work. We are always looking for ways to encourage each other to be physically active and eat well, and being involved with RiseVT seemed like a perfect fit,” says Stacey.

During their RiseVT pilot, Peoples Trust earned Silver status as a Certified Breastfeeding Friendly Employer with the State of Vermont Breastfeeding-Friendly Employer Project. Scientific evidence suggests that breastfeeding, especially exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life, followed by breastfeeding into the toddler years, may impact childhood and adult obesity rates. The Breastfeeding-Friendly Employer Project helps Vermont employers adopt breastfeeding-friendly policies in the workplace, and recognizes who do so. RiseVT connected Peoples Trust to Rachael Gregory, a Certified International Breastfeeding Lactation Consultant with the Saint Albans District Health Department.

“Over 80% of our organization is female, and we have always supported moms but now we have a policy that states this. It raises the level of our commitment to support our working moms and the health and wellbeing of their children,” says Stacey.

Peoples Trust has more “rising” planned. They will soon start working with Healthy Roots, on healthy, locally-sourced eating, start conducting health risk assessments and connecting staff to RiseVT’s resources to improve health.
