RiseVT collaborated with Northwestern Counseling and Support Service’s Family Center to bring together kids of all ages to participate in an outdoor scavenger hunt on the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail on April 27th.  The event was focused around our community kiddos ages 0-6 although all were welcome.  The event started at 10 am at the entrance of the MVU rail trail.  Participants received a RiseVT backpack and began their walk scavenging for prizes along the way including compasses, binoculars and more.   The kiddos and families trekked one mile into the trail where they were met by the RiseVT Team with their famous Smoothie Bikes to spin a healthy treat at the halfway point.

On the way back, participants were engaged in a story walk where the read “The Big Wide Mouthed Frog” by Ana Martin Larranaga.  For those who are not familiar with a story walk, a story walk is an innovative and delightful way for children and families to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s book are attached to wooden stakes, which are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you’re directed to the next page in the story.

The families and kiddos had a blast during this event and we hope to partner with our local family center soon to bring together outdoor and adventure to our community!
